A nation that has given away its scare resource and part of its land to its
enemy is Somaliland. The biggest share of Somaliland fish industry was given to
what is called Egypt business people (Egypt), the biggest enemy of Somaliland.
Furthermore, it was given these Egyptian fishermen to fish a specific area, but
these people decide themselves to fish wherever they want to fish in Somaliland
territory; Somaliland people have seen them fishing all over Somaliland coast.
Of course these fishermen are undermining the very government that gave its
scare resource, and perhaps, they know that Somaliland government is very weak
and naïve.
Fortunately, Somaliland police go with these Egyptian fishermen when they come
to Somaliland territory, and the Egyptian fishermen supposed to bring back the
police wherever they pick them up, but when they finish fishing, they drop the
police wherever they feel like to drop the police. It is reported that some of
the police men they picked them up near Berbera, and unfortunately they dropped
them near Djibouti. This shows how they hate and disrespect the people of
Somaliland. Plus, when Egyptian fishermen fish in Somaliland territory, no
government agency knows the exact amount of fishes that these people get from
Somaliland territory so that the government will charge the right amount. It
appears that this is just a giving away the scarce resource of the nation simply
because the interest of government officials is served. Hence, it is obvious
that the main goal of Somaliland government or its mission is to enrich its
cabinet members when over 85% of Somaliland people go to sleep with an empty
stomach. President Riyale lives comfortably from 200 feet away from Hargeisa
hospital where everyday a lot of people die, and the main cause of these deaths
is starvation and malnutrition. It is not a secret that starvation and
malnutrition causes different kinds of diseases which eventually cause death. By
the way, Egypt government is the orchestration of banning our livestock trading
in the Middle East. Our government is supporting the economy of the government (Egypt
government) that has destroyed our economy; it is ludicrous.
Now fortunately, there is a boat industry in Hargeisa. If we have a government
that cares its people, the vast majority of Somaliland population won’t go to
sleep with empty stomach, and Somaliland children (the nation’s future) won’t
suffer malnutrition. Simply, instead of giving away our fishing industry, the
government can buy 25 boats, so these boats will bring a lot of fish to
Somaliland cities, and these fishes will be sold in affordable price to the
needed Somaliland people. Furthermore, the price of the fish must be cheap
enough for our poor people to purchase. Even if the government does not want to
get involved in this kind of projects, it can render contracts to private
companies provided these companies are Somaliland companies. It is the time to
feed our people, but not our enemy who day and night thinks how to obliterate
the existence of Somaliland.
Unfortunately, our government has given away the rest of our fish industry to
one of our enemies, Yemen. Yemen is a good friend of Abdillahi Yusuf. Yemen has
been giving a lot military hardware to Majeerteeniya. Probably, Yemen gave the
guns that the Majeerteenia Militia used to kill our heroes. It is sad to see
that our government supports or finances our enemy instead of punishing them.
The only way these actions of our government can be a rational is that our
government prefers to see the interest of its cabinet members to be served; it
does not care about the people of Somaliland and independence of Somaliland.
President Egale had done a great job for giving a good lesson to Mr. Omar Gale
(president of Djibouti). Mr. Omar Gale has tried so much to destroy Somaliland,
and has used different techniques in order to accomplish his goal, destruction
of Somaliland. I think that every Somaliland knows the animosity that Mr. Omar
Gale has for Somaliland. Furthermore, Mr. Omar Gale believes that if Somaliland
becomes independent state, his government won’t survive for economic reasons,
but I think he wrongs about that. I personally believe that if Somaliland
becomes independent state the opposite of his believes will occur because the
same people live in the two countries and there will always be a trading between
the two people; Djibouti economy will grow drastically when Somaliland become
recognized. Now let me humbly go back to the point that I want to make.
President Riyale made a big mistake for opening the border between Somaliland
and Djibouti. This has not given any advantage to Somaliland, but unfortunately
it has given a lot of advantage to Djibouti. The only thing Somaliland needs
from Djibouti is to recognize it and Mr. Omar Gale is reluctant to do so. The
world works this way, you give me something and I will give you something in
turn. In other words, it is a give and take (there is no such thing as a free
lunch). Since president Riyale opened the border, Mr. Omar Gale has not been
denouncing publicly the existence of Somaliland. In other words, he has changed
his techniques of dealing Somaliland. Unfortunately, all our enemies have
changed their techniques of dealing Somaliland in order to mislead us for
pretending that they are our friends. Furthermore, President Riyale opened our
market for Mr. Omar Gale’s business people and these entrepreneurs receive
millions of dollars in Somaliland market and in turn Somaliland receives the
hatred of Mr. Omar Gale. In other words, Somaliland finances the animosity of
Mr. Omar Gale. If Mr. Omar Gale does not come forward to recognize Somaliland,
Somaliland government must cut off the trading between Somaliland and Djibouti.
Somaliland government is lacking the techniques of how to negotiate with other
governments in the region, and every government in the region is taking
advantage of its weakness or perhaps, Somaliland government does not care about
the independence of Somaliand as long as the interest of government officials is
served. Hence, if Somaliland government cares about the independence of
Somaliland, it would not have opened the border between Somaliand and Djibouti
and started a normal relationship until it ensures that Mr. Omar Gale comes to
his senses and recognized the independence of Somaliland. But now it seems that
the problem is not Mr. Omar Gale. The problem is Somaliland government which its
mission is to serve only the interest of its cabinet members.
It is so sad that Somaliland government gave away Sool and Sanaag region to
Abdillahi Yusuf. Somaliland government does not even care about our heroes who
Majeerteeniya militia has abducted and kept for so many months. Somaliland
government has not even mentioned their absence. It is sad! Majeerteeniya
militia killed our heroes and our government has not done anything about it
instead of our government has rewarded Abdillahi Yusuf for killing our heroes
and gave part of Somaliland territory (Sool and Sanaag). Majeerteeniya militia
has been killing Somalilanders inside Somaliland territory (Sanaag region) and
the government has not done anything about it. Why Somaliland government does
not take military action against Majeerteeniya militia? Many Somalilanders say
and believe that government officials use the government budgets for their
personal affairs, and if the government commences a war against Majeerteeniya
militia, these officials won’t be able use these funds. Therefore, the
government cabinet members must curb any military action that faces the
government to take.
It is sad that Somaliland government does not want Somalilanders to get jobs
become available in the NGOs working in Somaliland. For example, as we all know
the case of Amina-Weris Sheikh Mohamed, the wife of chairman of Kulmiye Ahmed
Mohamed Mohamoud Silanyo. This is a serious problem and it is the time
Somaliland people to wake up and begin to question the legitimacy of the work
this government has been doing. Is this government works for foreigners or is it
works for the people of Somaliland? Well if the government is here to serve the
people of Somaliand, it is not the case of Amina-Weris Sheikh Mohamed. In here
it appears that the government is served for foreigner simply because the
government did choose a foreigner over its citizen. The new parliament must
investigate this matter and also must find who is behind this ugly action and
furthermore why it happened to this particular woman (Amina-Weris Mohamed). It
is the time the new parliament to discipline the executive branch.
The case of Amina-Weris Sheikh Mohamed opens a new page for the new parliament
to deal with it. It seems that the executive branch is out of touch with its
people. Thus, Somaliland has been missing a functioning legislative branch and
judicial branch. As we all well know our government system comprise three
braches of government which are legislative (lawmaking), judicial (courts of law)
and executive (administrative). Each entity must be independent as our
constitution defines clearly (the law of the land). But it appears that
executive branch controls the other two entities. It is the time the new
parliament to reverse the past actions of executive branch, and do not allow
anymore the executive branch to control the parliament and courts if we all want
to build a nation. It is well know to all Somalilanders that the executive
branch has been attempting to bribe the new parliament. If some of you (new
parliament) allow this ugly event to occur, then the parliament can not do his
work which is to make sure that the executive branch is doing what it supposed
to be doing. Do not accept a bribe from executive branch; this will spoil your
bright future. In short, you (new parliament) are the hope of the nation and you
can make a difference. We, UCID leaders have pledged to make a difference so
that the people of Somaliland will have a better life. So you (new parliament)
can pledge too to make a difference and you can do it in order our people to
have a better life. You have a five years and the clock is clicking so you ought
make sure that at end of your term you will be proud to say I make a difference
so Somalilanders (your constituencies) will be happy to reelect you another five
years. You (new parliament) are the hope of the nation and do not let your
people down.
