Meeting with the State Secretary, ministry for
foreign Affairs
The Speaker of House of Representatives Rt. Hon Abdirahman M. Abdillahi Arrived
at Stockholm Airport 29 march 2006 at 10.30 am.
He was received by members of Somaliland community and organisations.
Immediately after his arrival the Speaker was received by Annika Söder, State
secretary, Ministry for Foreign Affairs at the Ministry. The Speaker was given a
warm welcome.
The speaker informed the State Secretary about the democratic developments in
Somaliland. The speaker gave the State Secretary a map of Somaliland and
explained the different situations Somaliland have passed during the past.
The Speaker emphasized the Somalilands commitment for democracy and recognition.
The Speaker invited the State Secretary to visit Somaliland so that the Swedish
government can see what Somaliland people have achieved without full support
from the International Community when it comes to democracy and institutional
building.
The State Secretary was very happy to receive the Speaker and exchanged ideas
about the political developments in Somaliland and Somalia. The State Secretary
told the Speaker that the Swedish government follows the positive developments
that are happening in Somaliland and congratulates the Somalilands people for
the steps they have taken towards democracy and the respect for human rights.
The State Secretary will work for close co
operation between Somaliland and Sweden.
The State Secretary informed the Speaker that a delegation led by Marika Fahlén,
Ambassador and Special Envoy will visit Somaliland shortly. The aim of the visit
is to Get information and look the major areas for future co-operation.
The delegation is planning to meet among others the Somaliland President Rt.Hon
Dahir Riyale Kaahin , the house of Representatives, the opposition parties and
the civil society.
The Speaker welcomed the Swedish governments initiative and look forward to meet
the delegation in Hargeisa Somaliland. The meeting finished in a good atmosphere
and gives hope for the future.
